Voting on a smartphone: evaluating the usability of an optimized voting system for handheld mobile devices

Why the article is helpful

  • Voting on smartphones versus traditional voting platforms
  • Total interaction time were neither more efficient versus the other
  • Smartphone committed fewer errors

The authors assessed the usability of a voting system for smartphones which offer remote participation in elections to increase voter participation. They developed a mobile voting system for the iPhone and compared its usability with traditional voting platforms. Results showed that the mobile voting system was not as efficient as the other voting methods in total interaction time, but smartphone owners committed fewer errors. Several important design considerations were then discussed for voting technology.
